Roof Ventilation
Ridge vents, soffit vents, and vented drip edge. Proper ventilation is crucial — and required for a valid roof warranty.
Why is roof ventilation so important?
Ridge vents and soffit vents are the most crucial component when it comes to the longevity of your roof and the air quality inside your home. Ventilation is a serious matter that should be left to the professionals. We are the top ventilation experts in our field — no roof design is too complex for us to find a ventilation solution.
A properly vented roof will:
- Reduce heat buildup in summer, making living areas more comfortable while reducing A/C usage
- Help eliminate trapped moisture that can cause mold, mildew, and wood rot
- Keep the roof deck uniformly cool in winter to help protect against ice dams
- Extend the life of your roof shingles
- Is a requirement for a valid roof warranty
How it works
Cool, outside intake air enters through the soffit (or vented drip edge), travels up the underside of the roof deck, and exits through the ridge vent — pulling hot, humid air out as it goes. The result: a balanced, cool, dry attic year-round.
How roof ventilation works
Cool air enters at the eaves, hot humid air escapes at the ridge — a continuous cycle that keeps your attic dry and your shingles lasting longer.
Why CertainTeed Filter Ridge Vent is #1
HyTech Roofing Solutions exclusively uses CertainTeed Filter Ridge Vent — the only ridge vent on the market with an external baffle.
- External baffle creates lift as air passes over your house, pulling out hot & humid air
- Required on all CertainTeed roofs for the shingle warranty to be valid
- Maximum airflow, minimum dust infiltration
- Completely resistant to tearing
- Insect and rodent resistant
- Guaranteed for the life of your roof
Don't get fooled by other brands
Most other brands squeeze too tight once nailed down, completely restricting airflow. Here's what other ridge vents do:
- Allow minimal to no airflow
- Are unfiltered, allowing dust & sand to blow in
- Can be torn apart by strong wind or animals
- Roll-type vents are easily scratched and chewed by rodents
- Most brands come with no guarantee
No soffit vents? No problem.
HICKS Vented Aluminum Drip Edge is the best solution for creating air intake on roof eaves that were constructed without soffit ventilation. Not all vented drip edges function efficiently — HICKS is the only brand we use, and it has proven to rank superior over all others.
- The drip edge is custom-bent to the pitch of your roof, so the lower flange sits flat on your fascia trim
- A 3/4″ cut is made across the entire top of your fascia board to create the air passage
- Without properly installed intake vents, your ridge vent will draw air from the inside living space — costing you a fortune in heating and cooling
Why this matters
Checking for and cutting in a proper opening is the most common step that many roofers neglect. Skipping this step in the beginning will void your entire roof warranty — which is why it should be left to true professionals.
